Stanwood United Cross Country competed in the Hole in the Wall Invitational on Friday. Our middle school boys team won 1st place and took home a plaque for the school's trophy case, and our girls team placed 3rd overall. The top twelve runners in each grade for each race were awarded ribbons and Stanwood was represented well on the podium with 2 runners in the top twelve for 6th grade boys and 8 runners in the top twelve for 6th grade girls. We had 2 runners in the top twelve for 7th grade boys with Kaito Lew coming in first place, and our 7th grade girls had 2 runners in the top twelve. In the 8th grade race, Stanwood had 5 runners in the top twelve for boys and Lilly Borthwick, our lone 8th grade runner, came in 9th place. Coach Lynn said that even though this was a longer distance race than our previous races, 22 out of our 86 athletes broke their overall pace times. This is a great payoff for the hard work we see in practice.
We close out our season with League Finals this Tuesday in Anacortes.
